Garry's surname was changed from Kasparian to Kasparov (if I'm not mistaken) to make it sound more russian. Why is Kosteniuk not changed to Kostenova to make it also sound russian? Since AK is representing Russia and not Ukraine.

Kasparov changed his name from Weinstein, which is a whole different story than simply trying to sound more Russian. As far as me, I like my last name, even if it is of Ukrainian origin.

Garry's father is Kim Weinstein, who later died when Garry was still young (7 years old I think). Garry then adopted his mother's Kasparian name, which was then changed to Kasparov. So was it just a matter of preference, whether you would change the name or not? If you like your current surname, I would not argue with that.

I'm not really used to russian names, I just notice that men ends with 'ov' like Karpov, and that women ends with 'ova' like Stefanova (hmm, i think antoanneta is bulgarian? hehe). Correct me if i said anything wrong, ChessQueen. Thank you.
