In checkers, is the King free to end his turn at any empty square in that row after jumping?

Lets say the King is on the far corner, and his target is in the middle of the board. The rest of the row behind the target is empty up to the end of the row. Is the King free to end his turn by landing on any free square behind the target, or must he stop on the square immediately behind the target, like all other pieces?

the only difference between a king and a regular piece is that the king can move backwards
