McAfee found one. Norton found 98. But Norton was the free version and wouldn't remove them, just find them. McAfee removed the one it found but since my computer was still acting strangely, I figured it must've been one of the other 97 viruses, worms, and PUPs on my system causing the peculiar behavior. Step 2 I tried to get someone from McAfee to talk with me but apparently if the software doesn't clean your system, they don't want to discuss it, they recommend you hire an expert to do it for you remotely to the tune of about $80 to $100. Step 3 I went to Download.com, a trusted site, and looked at a bunch of different free virus checkers and antivirus software. I also looked at some discussion bulletin boards and saw what others were using. I ended up downloading Trojan Remover - link below - and within one minute it had found and disabled "search hijacker." The problem is solved! Step 4 Trojan Remover allows you 30 days to try the product and if you like it, they ask for $34 to register the program. Registration will work on up to 4 computers which is ideal for my household.
