I’m trying a longer format this week, due to the amount of information I want to share about Mah Jong. In this video, I talk about Asian-style Mah get prescription drugs without prescription Jong, purchasing a set, and compare Asian to American Mah Jong Also, all BGWS episodes after 014 are over at boardgameswithscott.com and are not on YouTube.

I’m watching Saki too, looks quite interesting but a bit girly. x_x
Another anime about Mahjong that I’d recommend is Akagi, it’s a bit old, but i really enjoyed that anime!
Thanks snicholson, nice explanation!
what he is teaching is chinese mj, not the jap mj, total diff play styles
Thats why i’m here too.
Thanks for the clear explanation! I have always been interested in Mahjong but when I found out it was just matching pairs I lost interest. Now I see why adult Chinese like to play it.. as you say.. it resembles playing cards! Thanks again!
“hey i like anime and i am white, i am a huge weeaboo faggot which is why i want to learn mahjong”
-99% of the people here
/b/fail
Really desperate for trollfood if you’re bothering with this.
Good luck with that.
I prefer the style he mentioned of discarding everything in the middle into a big mess. It forces players to pay closer attention to what they’re discarding to make it more challenging to figure out what they need rather than having it out organized making it easier for people to just look rather than remember.
While talking about “Kongs”, one part that was missing, where if someone has collected a 3 of a kind, and if they happen to collect the 4th piece on their own.
In that instance, that person can declare “Kong” and reveal the 4-of-a-kind which allows them to take a tile from the “dead pile”.
Another way it’s done is if they have previously done a pong and their 3-of-a-kind is face up and draw the 4th piece later, this can also be declared a “kong” to lay down, and draw from the “dead pile” too.
The scoring system is not right.
Damn Americans. Its not dots. Technically its Tong Zi. But at least call them CIRCLES!
i’m going to see if Kong88 can add an auto table to the winning of a tournament since they have new mahjong tourneys.
it’s called tokens, not dots and the “characters” are called man-zi, which goes ten-thousand to ninety thousand.
Thank you SO much for making this video! Back when I was 17 or so, I went on vacation with my family and visited Chinatown, where I bought my first mahjong set. The rules were so poorly translated they were incomprehensible and I put the whole thing out of mind. After finding this video, though, I brushed off the dust, tried out a few games, and got my friends all hooked on it. We played it every day for a MONTH and we all still love it.
Thanks again!
hong kong scientsts say playing too much can cause seizures
MINE! MINE! MINE!
Cheers Scott for an in-depth & informative video. I’m still picking up the details but you’ve cleared up a lot of things for me so thanks again.
Whenever I play with my filipino friends, they say “balls” instead. Hehehe…:-P But I agree, at least call it circles. Leave it up to us Americans to mess up an ancient game.
And please don’t say “mine mine mine!” You’re going to sound stupid. Say the right words: chow, pung, kong, mahjong.
Leave it to the Americans to make joker tiles for Mahjong. Seriously?
Scott, the angry asians are complaining about your terminology of their dumb ass domino game, better edit it! Seriously though, thanks for the intro to this awesome game. DOTS!
This is a very good introduction to the game, with very clear instruction. When I went to my first game of (sorry, Scott) American Mah Jong, I had a solid understanding of the basics and terminology.
Thanks.
sounds like hes sayin my dong
was a great video.
had no idea how to play before i watched this.
now fairly confident it wont take long to pick up because of this.
thank you
